What is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small data file that is stored on the user's computer in order to recognize the computer at later visits. A cookie is a passive file that cannot collect information on your computer, spread computer viruses, or other malicious programs.

Some cookies are placed by parties (so-called 3rd parties) other than the one in the browser's address bar (URL), such as when embedding a video from YouTube or a Google card. This means that cookies are stored from parties other than the owner of the website.

Some cookies are only stored on the user's IT equipment as long as the user has their browser open (session cookies). Other cookies are stored for a long period of time (persistent cookies). When the user revisits a website, session cookies will be reset, while persistent cookies are typically simply renewed.

We use the traffic analysis tool from Matomo to track visitors' use of the pages. We have opted out of recognizing returning visitors, which is why cookies (and IP information) are not used. The anonymous information about the individual visits is stored on a server that only we and the system provider can access, and is used solely to make reports on the use of the website. Data is not disclosed to any third party.

On our website we show some videos from YouTube. YouTube sets a cookie that we cannot turn off. YouTube uses cookies to track the use of the video and target marketing. Therefore, before playing the video, we ask for consent for these cookies to be set.
