The Institute recommends stronger prioritisation of human rights by IFU in its sustainability policy

The Investment Fund for developing countries, IFU’s policy would benefit from a closer alignment with international standards on human rights, the Institute states.

IFU’s update of its sustainability policy demonstrates its commitment to clarify its human rights responsibility and to align its due diligence practices with the substantive and procedural standards outlined in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).

However to fully implement such commitment the policy should be closer aligned with the UNGPs, including on important aspects around ensuring that prioritisation of IFU’s efforts is based on human rights risks to rights-holders and that IFU engages with and facilitates accountability towards such rights-holders and their representatives.

These are among the key messages and recommendations stated by the Danish Institute for Human Rights in a public comment on IFU’s draft policy. IFU has invited the institute along with other stakeholders to comment on its policy.
