Extreme social control

This report looks at the fact that young people - especially women - are behaviorally regulated to protect the family's honor.

The extreme social control can be expressed in terms of limitations, restrictions, isolation, monitoring, mental and / or physical violence, etc.

We analyze from a legal point of view, the extent to which the child or young person is entitled to a private life in relation to their parents. This issue is not addressed directly in either legal cases or legal literature, which primarily focuses on protecting the individual from interference and control by the authorities. An actual protection of the child against the parents has primarily been discussed in cases of neglect, violence and other abuse, whereas the right of the child or the young person to develop an independent personality with associated privacy is largely untouched.

The report is in Danish, but contains an English summary on page 12.

We strive to make the pdf versions of our publications etc. accessible for screen readers. If you experience any problems, please contact Digital Editor Stine Juhl Nielsen on stni@humanrights.dk
