Toolkit on National Action Plans on business and human rights now available in Arabic

Over the past couple of years, National Action Plans (NAP) have been gaining ground as a useful tool to prevent and address the human rights impacts of business.

In a growing number of countries both in the North and the global South, civil society, businesses, state actors and NHRIs have come together to discuss and elaborate such plans.

The Toolkit

The report shows how governments can put corporate responsibility for human rights in motion. It outlines ways forward for governments wanting to strengthen corporate responsibility for human rights. The report is based on input from hundreds of experts.

A toolkit developed by the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) and the International Accountability Roundtable (ICAR) is helping stakeholders to design participatory and inclusive processes for developing robust NAPs.

The US, Germany, Ireland, Chile, Mexico, Kenya are just a few of the many countries presently developing NAPs and leaning on the toolkit produced by the Institute.

The toolkit suggests that such plans should build on a national baseline assessment of current implementation of the UNGPs allowing to identify gaps and priorities for action.

Little action has been seen so far in North Africa and the Middle East to address adverse human rights impacts of business in a systematic way. We hope that this publication will be utilised by stakeholders as a tool to map gaps and challenges faced in the region and elaborate their own policies to respond to these challenges.
