DIHR signs agreement with Ukrainian ombudsman

For the first time, a memorandum of understanding has been signed by the national Danish and Ukrainian human rights institutions.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Ombudsman Institution of Ukraine have signed a memorandum of understanding,underlining the cooperation between the two institutions.

The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska said during the signing:
"The experience ofthe Danishinstitute in the sphere of protection of human rights will be very useful to us, and the planned joint actions will assist establishing of mutual cooperation, in particular, regarding an exchange of experience concerning issues of effective promotion and protection of human rights."
Jonas Christoffersen, director of the Danish Institute for Human Rights, is equally thrilled.
"We are very happy to take this step and sign the memorandum. I am confident that we will have a long and fruitful relationship."

Many tasks ahead
The two institutions laid out the road map for future tasks that they will cooperate on.
Outside strengthening thethe role of national human rights institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights,it was also agreed that the two institutions will be organizingvisits, conferences, seminars and trainings for mutual examination of work experience and professional development.
