A need for good e-governance in new Africa strategy and COVID-19 measures

The EU, Denmark and like-minded countries should mark themselves to ensure that digitalization in the Global South is based on good e-governance

Many of the world's states are moving rapidly towards methods and an application of technologies known from China and Saudi Arabia, among others, and they are thus turning away from the values that have been foundational for decades in Denmark's development aid. The COVID-19 pandemic may well amplify this trend.

Without protecting the rights of citizens and clear rules for digital
governance, technology and digitalization is a powerful tool for
dictators and authoritarian regimes.

For this reason, the Institute for Human Rights recommends that Denmark and the EU put good e-governance at the center of digital development strategies.
