Women who wear hijab – Ten women's experiences with the labour market

In this report, we focus on access to the labour market for women wearing hijab.

In this report we focus on women who wear hijab and their access to the labour market. We examine how wearing the hijab, and thus signaling religious beliefs, affects the employment opportunities of young ethnic minority women who speak fluent Danish and are well educated.

New research from the University of Copenhagen documents that
wearing a hijab has a negative effect on a job applicant’s chances of employment.

In the spring of 2019 we interviewed ten well-educated and qualified ethnic minority women who wear hijab in order to examine their considerations when applying for a job. These interviews show that the women have felt discriminated against or have felt harassed during a job interview or in the workplace.
