Harassment against parliamentary candidates is a democratic challenge

New research by the Danish Institute of Human Rights shows that three out of four parliamentary candidates experienced harassment or threats.

If you run for parliamentary elections, there is a great risk that you will be exposed to harassment. This is the conclusion of a new study, which also shows that it is especially on social media that many candidates experience harassment and receive threats. Harassment in the study is understood as everything from vandalism of election posters to threatening face-to-face inquiries, on the phone or on social media.

This policy brief presents the Danish Institute of Human Rights' recommendations to address the problem.
