When digital platforms have to limit freedom of expression

The EU proposes that digital platforms, such as Facebook, use automated content filters, but it poses human rights challenges.

Automated Content Filters is a machine learning program where algorithms automatically identify and remove - or prevent uploading - text or images online. This may, for example, be about illegal content.

It is a human rights problem that the "decisions" of the filters are hidden and that it is not possible to gain insight into them. The sorting of the filter filters is actually impossible to see.
