Danish royal visit at the Nepali police forces

His Royal Highness Prince Joachim of Denmark visited the institute’s partners at the Nepali Metropolitan Traffic Police Division in Kathmandu.

Together with a delegation from CARE Denmark His Royal Highness Prince Joachim of Denmark paid a visit to the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division in Kathmandu yesterday.

The visit included a tour of the premises and presentations on the ongoing collaboration between the Nepali police, the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) and the Danish police. The collaboration focusses on ending the use of torture in Nepal.

I am very pleased to see how Danish institutions are working in Nepal and that the collaboration between Danish Police and Nepal Police has borne fruit.

The projectissupported by DIHR and the Kathmandu School of Law and is implemented in collaboration with the Nepali Police, the Nepali Armed Police Force, Department of Forest, and Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation.

In the first half of 2017, a group of60 selected leaders from Nepal’s three law enforcement agencies are designing and implementing their own mini-project at their local workstations.The leaders are in charge of 57 different projects that seek to address one or more of seven root causes that can explain why torture, cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment still takes place in Nepal today. The police designs the projects in order to make positive change and find new ways to work with the prevention of torture, cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment.
