Continuing work with Hydro to implement human rights

The Danish Institute for Human Rights has signed a 2-year partnership with the Norwegian company, Hydro. The partnership aims at supporting better integration of human rights throughout Hydro operations and activities in 2016-2017.

The new partnership with Hydro will focus on upstream and downstream value chain management, and managing key risks and issues in core operations. This is yet another step in aligning all Hydro activities with human rights.

“Hydro is operating in a dynamic environment, where human rights challenges and dilemmas are constantly present. We have been working with the Danish Institute for Human Rights for a number of years, and are happy to now have this partnership to support our relationship and needs in the day-to-day operations”, says Elise Must, Head of CSR at Hydro.

“We are happy to be continuing our work with Hydro to support human rights integration across their activities”, says Cathrine Bloch Veiberg, Corporate Engagement Programme Manager at the Danish Institute for Human Rights.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights has been working with Hydro since 2011. In 2011-2012 the DIHR performed a human rights risk assessment and policy/procedure gap analysis for Hydro. This process resulted in the development of an action plan on human rights for Hydro. In 2013-2014, DIHR worked with Hydro on a follow-up to this action-plan and a deep dive assessment of Hydro activities in Brazil.
