Synergies and linkages

The endeavour to advance human rights internationally requires a complex interplay of engagements at different levels - the focus of this report.

The report contains findings from a study on Synergies and Linkages between Danish efforts to promote human rights at the multilateral level and in development cooperation conducted by the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) on the basis of an assignment commissioned by the Danish
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The objective of the study, as defined by the terms of reference of the assignment, was to explore ‘the avenues for creating linkages, coherence and strategic synergies between [Denmark’s] normative, multilateral human rights agenda and its support to democratisation and human rights in development cooperation.’
